The Lady Spikers should've gotten more individual awards in Baguio if not for the pre-arranged distribution limiting them to a maximum of three. For one, based on stats, Alarca should've won the best server award.
But winning individual awards, and even the championship for that matter, weren't really the primary purpose of the team in joining the tournament. The team is trying fine-tune to improve from last season.
The coaching staff is confident Mika Esperanza can make the Spikers offense hum. They credit Cruz' and Mercado's superb showing to Mika's excellent setting. This early, she fits the Spikers like a glove. Can't imagine what she'll become after a few months work with Chi Saet.
Theodosio was used as the primary libero in Baguio and she stepped up big time. Looks like we found an able back-up to Gohing.
Coach Ramil is, of course, not only looking at S73 but also beyond. Mercado and Alarca will be playing their last this coming season while Cruz can still play 'til S74 but will be graduating this year. So replacements for these vital cogs must be developed starting this year. In this aspect, the coach believes the reserve and the current batch of recruits have what he needs.
Three of the recruits are from the provinces--from Batangas, Bulacan, and Cebu--and the rest are from MM. No need to indicate their positions; what with coach Ramil's knack for converting players, what's the point, right? All we need to know is that they'll be developed to replace those leaving the team. Several of them are potent attackers and two are superb blockers--better than Siy when she first showed up in La Salle.
Funny somebody mentioned about using two setters, the 6-2 formation was tried in practice before Baguio. Nice to watch!
