LeBron will change his jersey number to 6 come next season.

He wants to overtake Kobe in terms of Jersey sales.

But I personally think, before Bron can think of overtaking Kobe in jersey sales he should think first of equaling Kobe in terms of Championships. Where it all matters.

Nets defeated the Spurs in order to avoid tying the worst NBA record in history.

Manu was out with back spasms and Mason was also out due to injury.

it's so frustrating to watch the lakers right now...the regular season is almost over and they have yet to show their real form...hopefully they are just waiting for the playoffs...they're too good not to win it all...

correct and he keeps saying that he's doing it to honor jordan...right...what about bill russell who wore number 6..this guy almost doubled jordan's rings,if i'm not mistaken russell has 11 rings...

DALLAS - Dwight Howard had 17 points, 20 rebounds and five blocked shots and Mickael Pietrus made six of Orlando's 14 three-pointers to help the Magic to a 97-82 NBA victory over Dallas on Thursday.

France's Pietrus, available again after sitting out three of the previous five games because of a sprained left ankle, made all six of his three-point attempts as he scored a season-high 24 points.

Vince Carter added 19 points as the Magic won for the 14th time in 16 games.

"We know how good we are," said Jameer Nelson, who scored 14 points. "We're not cocky or overconfident or anything, but we know we can beat anybody when we play our game.

"We played great defensively, pushed the ball and got good shots when we needed to."

Dirk Nowitzki led the Mavericks with 24 points, but it wasn't enough to extend Dallas' three-game winning streak.

Jason Terry and JJ Barea had 16 points apiece off the bench for the Mavericks.

Nowitzki's fellow starters - Shawn Marion, Brendan Haywood, Caron Butler and Jason Kidd - combined for only 20 points.

The Mavericks had beaten Orlando 95-85 in February in the only other meeting this season.

Orlando, who lead the NBA in three-pointers made and attempted, connected on only 4-of-25 from three-point range in that defeat.

"We got the same looks, we just moved the ball and shot with confidence," Carter said. "Some nights it's going to be like that."

"The thing that killed us were the three," Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said. "The last few times we've played them, we made a real effort to run them off the line and they missed shots they normally make."

ATLANTA - Joe Johnson scored 25 points for Atlanta Wednesday as the Hawks handed the NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers their second straight defeat - 109-92.

Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant scored 28 points but only eight in the second half as Los Angeles lost back-to-back games for just the fourth time this season.

The Lakers, who won twice on their five-game road trip, missed out on a chance to clinch the Pacific Division title.

The Hawks came into the night tied with Boston for the third seed in the Eastern Conference.

But their ninth straight home win, coupled with Boston's 109-104 loss to Oklahoma City saw the Celtics fall out of the tie for third.

Johnson hit five three-pointers but Atlanta's reserves also came up big.

Jamal Crawford scored 14 points, Maurice Evans had 18 and the Hawks' reserves outscored the Lakers bench 48-22, also getting a double-double from Zaza Pachulia.

The Hawks took the lead for good on Crawford's three-pointer with 1:35 left in the first quarter. They extended the gap to 55-45 by halftime and were never threatened in the second half.

Bryant came out of the game with 2 1/2 minutes remaining.

But the visit of the reigning NBA champs drew a rare full-house in Atlanta.

The Lakers were still without forward Luke Walton, but Lakers coach Phil Jackson said Walton, who is nursing a pinched nerve in his back, hopes to play Sunday.

However, Los Angeles could be without center Andrew Bynum (Achilles strain) for another 10 days.
