Cheryl Cosim, Goodbye ABS-CBN, Hello TV5

Long-time Kapamilya Cheryl Cosim has bolted the ABS-CBN network and joined the ever-growing talent pool of TV5. She will host the nightly newscast of TV5 along with another “pirated talent” Paolo Bediones previously from GMA-7. The Manny Pangilinan-owned network is definitely in the works to solidify its position as a dominant broadcast station in 2010. And because TV5’s owner(s) have money to spend and definitely can afford to lure talents with better contracts and deals, expect the flow of talents from either ABS-CBN and/or GMA-7 to the Ka-Shake network to continue.

We can’t blame Cheryl Cosim for the opportunity to host the flagship news program of TV5. It’s definitely a good career move for her. While at ABS-CBN, she’s only done hosting jobs for Magandang Umaga Pilipinas and Salamat Dok! Her time to become a major news reader for a nightly program, even if it’s on TV5, is a major career leap na di niya pagsisihan in the future.

Cheryl and Paolo’s news program on TV5 will premiere in March 2010, preceding the official launch of the mas pinalakas at mas pinagandang TV5 a month later.

UPDATE: From another source,
whose credibility is also indubitable, Cheryl Cosim had already signed
with TV5. On the other hand, Anthony Taberna is yet to sign.

A
very credible source, one whose credibility is indubitable, confirmed
to Pinoy Gossip Boy that ABS-CBN newscasters Cheryl Cosim and Anthony
Taberna will be transferring to TV5 soon.


While
they purport to have big names in the network, these two newscasters’
career, as per the source, are not stellar at all. The source said
that if they were satisfied with their careers, the thought of changing
networks would have not even crossed their minds at all.


I asked the source if there is truth to rumors that their salaries were doubled. The source replied that
he/she wouldn’t be surprised if that was true. The source, however, was
not sure when would Cheryl and Tonying start working at TV5. According
to the grapevine, TV5 will go on full blast after elections due to time
constraints.

Mula sa pagiging Kapamilya, magiging Ka-shake na sina Dolphy at
Maricel Soriano dahil dalawa sila sa ABS-CBN talents na tiyak na ang
paglipat sa TV5. In fact, sa February na lilipat si Maricel at isang
drama anthology ang kanyang pagbibidahan.

Something magaan naman daw ang show na kino-conceptualize for Dolphy, pero sitcom pa rin na forte ng Comedy King. Walang exclusive contract si Dolphy sa Channel 2, kaya napadali
ang negosasyon. Si Maricel ay matagal na ring walang regular show sa
Channel 2.

Said a Cheryl defender, “She practically lives in the station, working seven
days a week from early morning until late evening. You see her on TV
and hear her on DZMM radio.”
That’s why Cheryl didn’t have any second thought about biting
TV5’s lucrative offer which ABS-CBN is said to have found difficult to
match. But there’s a hitch.

“Although she has accepted the TV5 offer,” said the defender, “Cheryl hasn’t signed the contract yet.” Hmmmm, is ABS-CBN making a counter offer?

Aside from a public-affairs show, according to reports,
effective March Cheryl will anchor TV5’s primetime newscast with Paolo
Bediones, another GMA-7 recruit now also holding an executive position
at TV5.

Now, what will happen to Cheryl’s health program Salamat Dok? She pioneered the show which has reaped numerous awards.

At TV5, Cheryl will be working with Luchi Cruz-Valdes who also came from the Kapamilya network
and now heads the TV5 news department; and DJ Sta. Ana, the husband of
Karen Davila, who also used to work at ABS-CBN news desk and is now
with TV5’s News & Public Affairs.

Dolphy signs non-exclusive contract with TV5

Kumpirmado na ang paglipat ng Comedy King na si Dolphy sa
bakuran ng mas pinalakas na TV5, na ngayon ay pinamumunuan na ng
multimedia mogul na si Manny V. Pangilinan.

Pumirma na ang Comedy King ng non-exclusive contract sa TV5
kamakailan para sa isang show na magsisimulang umere sa April ngayong
taon. Actually, isa lamang si Mang Dolphy sa maraming showbiz
personalities na umanib na sa "trendsetting network" na ito.

Ayon sa TV5, patuloy ang pag-offer nila ng "innovative new program
concepts" sa mga celebrity bilang bahagi ng pagsisimula ng mas exciting
na "three-way free-TV arena."

Bago nagdesisyong pumirma ng non-exclusive contract si Mang Dolphy
sa TV5 ay naging identified siya sa ABS-CBN, kung saan ginawa niya ang
mga comedy shows na Home Along Da Riles, Home Along Da Airport, Quizon Avenue, at John En Shirley.

Last year ay nagkaroon ng special guest appearance ang Comedy King sa primetime series na May Bukas Pa. Nabalita rin noon na may gagawin siyang teleserye, ang Utoy, kung saan makakasama niya ang child star na si Makisig Morales, pero wala nang balita tungkol dito.

Inaasahan na sa mga susunod na araw ay isa-isa nang ihahayag ang mga
pangalan ng iba pang mga artista na pumirma na ng kontrata sa TV5.

TV5 Sets Aside P12 Billion for War with ABS-CBN, GMA-7

In an interview with its president and chief executive officer, Ray Espinosa commented that the relaunch is “happening very soon…within the month.” Mr. Espinosa is also the president of MediaQuest Holdings Inc., the media holding company of the PLDT retirement fund.  TV5 is MediaQuest’s fifth investment in the media sector.

TV5’s new office will be located in Mandaluyong City, said Espinosa. The capital expenditure (capex) for the year will be about P7 billion. “The capex is for broadcast transmission, network and operations, inclusive of new studios and offices,” he said.

MediaQuest holds a 100-percent stake in TV5, the television network of former PLDT chairman Antonio “TonyBoy” Cojuangco and Primedia Inc., the broadcasting firm’s block airtimer. MediaQuest spent P5 billion for the acquisition of the television company and Primedia.

The investment, said MediaQuest, is in line with its strategy to develop media, content and production resources to complement other media assets and platforms of the PLDT Group, including Cignal, a direct-to-home satellite service.

By investing in both TV5 and Primedia, Mediaquest expects to further enhance Channel 5’s programming, ratings and sales as well as improve the broadcast network’s coverage and signal strength throughout the country.

Espinosa said MediaQuest will continue to invest in expanding ABC5 to be able to achieve its target to be the leading broadcasting network in the country within a period of three years.   “We will be expanding, same as the reach and strength of the two leading broadcasting networks, by rolling out in all areas where the two networks are present,” Espinosa said.

MediaQuest earlier said Channel 5 has significantly increased its viewership ratings and has established its position as a strong No. 3 in the Philippine television industry.

TV5 News and Public Affairs, The New “News Authority”

Fresh from recruiting ex-Kapamilya news personnel Luchi Cruz-Valdes to head its news and public affairs department, TV5 is aggressively positioning itself as the “news authority of the Philippines.” The Ka-Shake network is predicting that in three years time (or less), they will become the most trusted news source and resource of the country. A very ambitious endeavor indeed, but with its objective and balanced reporting, and timely coverage of news and events, TV5 is optimistic that TV viewers would transfer loyalty from ABS-CBN or GMA-7 to them. Posible kaya ito?

Sa pa-presscon ng TV5 para sa kanilang mga programang magsisimula in the coming weeks, ipinakikilala sa publiko ang Tutok Tulfo hosted by Erwin Tulfo na ipapalabas every Saturday at 5:30 p.m. starting March 14. Kasama rin sa schedule ang USI (Under Special Investigation) hosted by Paolo Bediones na every Sunday at 5:30 p.m. naman ang showing starting March 15.

Commenting on becoming a worthy news authority, Erwin Tulfo shared how Manny V. Pangilinan ordered the news department to “not fabricate news or stage police beat.” Marching orders daw ng big boss ng TV5 “to be the authority in news and public affairs,” and to do that dapat raw walang ginagawang maling practice.

Main challenge para sa TV5 ang i-break ang habit ng viewers sa panonood ng dalawang higanteng network: ABS-CBN at GMA-7. Ito ang tinutuunan ng pansing ng pamunuan ng Singko according to Luchi Cruz-Valdes. Malaking hamon daw sa kanila kung paano sila magiging iba, pero ang sigurado ay ime-maintain nila ang integridad at makabuluhang content ng kanilang mga programa.

Paolo Bediones will also host and main anchor ng primetime newscast nila na tipong mala-CNN daw ang dating pero in Filipino. Sa March 25 daw ito nakatakdang i-launch kasabay ang iba pang news and current affairs shows ng TV5.
