that spans over five decades from his years with The Beatles to his current

It was named to honor the American
songwriting

Librarian of Congress James H. Billington
described McCartney's career as spanning genres ranging from rock and roll to

Then he took his guitar and said "

before he sang the familiar tune for a Washington crowd at a private concert at
the library.
